Brief Introduction of Paunglaung HPP
Yunnan Provincial Government attches great importance to this project and has set up a Committee for the Coordination and Management of the Paunglaung Project with Mr. Shao Qiwei,Vice Governor of the Province, as the Chairman of the committee. This project was signed by Yunnan Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Corporation (YMEC) in October, 1998. YMEC has applied for export credit and organized its implementation. It will be jointly constructed by Kunming Hydroelectric Investigation Design and Research Institute (KHIDI) of the State Power Corporation of China.and the Fourteenth Construction (FCB) of Water Resources and Hydropower of China. The construction of the project responsible by YMEC started from the end of 1998. Up till now,the project has been progressing smoothly.The River Closure and Diversion Works have been completed and the beginning of the excavation of Power Intake and the Underground Powerhouse is in November,1999, The Underground Powerhouse of this project is on a large scale,and technically complex. It is consisted of 32 tunnels with the overall excavation length of about 3 kilometres. Up till the end of April, 2002, the accumulated footage of the underground excavation is 2777. 3m, which consists of 82% of the total excavation length.The first generation unit of Paunglaung Project is planned to be commissioned at the end of the year 2003. At present, there are 26 Chinese engineers working with Myanma engineers and workers at the site.They are making concerted efforts to “Create First-class Work and Build Up Chinese Image”
