Brief Introduction of Paunglaung HPP
Paunglaung hydropower project is situated in the center of Myanmar,between the two big cities of Yangon and Mandalay,It is 12miles from Pyinmana Township,and is in the center of electric load,only 10 miles from the main electric power network of the nation. After being connected with the power network,its coverage scope of power supply can be 90% of the country. The condition for condition for construction and power transmission is very desirable. Great installed capacity:280MW. Upon completion, Paunglaung Hydropower Station will become the biggest one in Myanmar, and will increase the installed capacity of 34.2% of the nation. Consequently, it will greatly ease the tension of the shortage of power supply in Myanmar, and conducive to developong Myanmar industry, agriculture,communication,culture and education,medical care and hotel tourism, conducive to improve people’s life and solve the problem of employment for large number of people. This station has the function of irrigation and can cover large irrigation area,the hight water level deposit in this reservoir can be up to 690 million/cubic metres with total irrigation area 21520 hectares,thus turn large area of land into fertile fields,and facilitate to develop agriculture.
Paunglaung Hydropower Project is the largest project in terms of foreign trade and economy in Yunnan Province and also the largest export of complete set of equipment and technology, The installed capacity is 280MW(4×70MW).The total contract value is USD 170 million, provided by Chinese Government on seller’s credit basis.This project draws the highest consideration and attention fo both Chinese and Myanma government. Myanma government even places is on the top priority list of the Specital Project Committee.Leaders of the State Council of Chinese instructed that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economy should be responsible to the State Council.Yunnan provincial Governemnt is requested to strengthen its leadership, coordination, and supervision of the smooth execution of the project.
